In just over a month, we return to Riga, Lucavsala – continuing to be the most tradition-rich and artist-packed music festival in the Baltics! For the first time in its history, Positivus will take place on August 8–9, offering the largest line-up of Latvian and international artists in recent years, featuring both audience favorites and critically acclaimed performers.
“This year we’ve been given a little more time to welcome long-awaited summer weather and to celebrate one of the most special weekends of the year – right in the heart of summer, in the company of music stars. Since the festival moved to Riga, this year’s program includes the highest number of well-known, proven music stars both from Latvia and abroad,” says festival organizer Ģirts Majors.
On the evening of Friday, August 8, British producer and musician Mura Masa will arrive from the streets of London to the heart of Lucavsala. His music defies categorization – bold, unpredictable, and thoroughly modern. Before that, the eclectic British multi-instrumentalist Elderbrook will electrify the crowd with irresistible DJ rhythms. The first day also promises an electrifying performance from Belgian-born Canadian artist Apashe, who revolutionises the fusion of electronic music and symphonic orchestra arrangements – this time performing together with Brass Orchestra.
The opening night will also feature Latvian crowd favorites like Tautumeitas and Laika suns, the locally awarded artist Chris Noah, and rapper Deniss, who recently celebrated his 10-year career anniversary. Fresh vibes in Latvian music will be brought by galeniex, winner of the “Zelta mikorfons” award for Best Debut Album, radio-acclaimed duo YŪT, and the year’s hottest newcomer – STIRNA.
On Saturday, August 9, festival-goers will enjoy an unforgettable concert experience with Wiesulis, one of Latvia’s most-streamed hip-hop artists, who will perform on the Positivus main stage for the first time. The second day will continue with dreamy indie moods courtesy of Carnival Youth, and a perfect summer evening soundtrack will be created by the warmly anticipated German band Milky Chance, blending indie and folk influences. As the sun sets over Daugava river, the main stage will be headlined by the powerful voice of Rag’n’Bone Man, whose 2017 album Human became the fastest-selling debut album of the decade in the UK.
But before that, Saturday’s musical lineup will also treat audiences to Ukrainian pop star Ivan Dorn and a rich mix of flavours from the U.S., including beloved electronic music multi-instrumentalist Two Feet, Spotify record-breakers Hippie Sabotage, the experimental duo The Hellp, and Los Angeles-based alt-hip-hop collective NOFUN!. Local rap sensation Fiņķis, praised by both the public and music critics, will spark a wild party in between.
